Rainponcho by De Graag

This rainponcho is inspired by the work of Dutch artist Julie de Graag (1877 – 1924). In
this artwork the East Indian Cherry is depicted, a colorful annual flower which has inspired
many artists throughout history. De Graag’s favorite technique was wood-block printing,
her favorite subject was nature and her favorite style was the abstract. This mix gives her
work a traditional Japanese flavor, but don’t be fooled: in the early 20th century, Julie de
Graag was an avant-garde artist exploring very modern approaches to art. Unfortunately
Julie’s career was interrupted prematurely. Tormented by depression, she died at the age
of 47.
