Our Stories Kröller-Müller Museum: Van Gogh

Kröller-Müller Museum: Van Gogh

Kröller-Müller Museum: Van Gogh

The still life with meadow flowers and roses painted by Vincent van Gogh around 1886 is an intriguing one. For years, there was considerable doubt as to whether Van Gogh had actually painted it himself, because it was too large, too lavish. Then, in 2012, X-ray analysis revealed that two wrestlers had originally been painted beneath the flowers.

Of course, it is the flowers and not the wrestlers that form the elegant floral design that we created for the Kröller-Müller Museum to develop up a permanent collection of alternating rain ponchos, rain hats and raincoats.
