Thyssen Bornemisza: Delaunay

Robert Delaunay's colourful painting entitled “Parrot” (1907) was not really about a parrot — the painter joked that the bird was merely an excuse, that its bright feathers were simply a way to make colours “sing”. Delaunay would devote his life to this: painting as if it were pure rhythm and music!

As a starting point for a funky pattern design, we decided not to use the parrot, but to focus on the plant in the painting. This rhythmic fragment has been transformed into a cheerful rain collection commissioned by the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum in Madrid consisting of a rain hat, a foldable rainponcho and a foldable rain coat.
