Socks by Klee (fire, 5 pairs)

These socks are inspired by Paul Klee’s ‘Fire in the Evening’ (1929). At first glance, it looks like a playful patchwork quilt – but Klee knew exactly what he was doing. He created a radiant world of shapes and shades, as if a city were quietly going up in flames of colour.

A two-week trip to Tunisia in 1914 proved crucial to Klee’s development as a painter. Paul Klee was captivated by North Africa, the light there and the vivid colours, where everything glitters and glows – like the last warm minutes of a day you don’t want to end. While there, he produced some 40 works of art to capture this feeling. From that moment on, his painting would be solely about capturing light and shades, rather than depicting a scene. His second passion as a talented violinist reinforced this development: every block, every line follows its own rhythm.
