Socks by Matisse - seaweed (5 pairs)
Your socks are inspired by Henri Matisse (1869–1954), the French artist known for his vibrant colors, expressive brushwork, and innovative compositions. Matisse worked in painting, sculpture, and printmaking.
But in his later years, when illness left him unable to stand at an easel, he reinvented his practice, he began to “paint with scissors”. He cut bold shapes from painted paper and arranged them into massive compositions. La Perruche et la Sirène, is one of the most iconic examples of Matisse’s paper cut-outs. In this bold and lively piece, you’ll notice leaves and pomegranates dancing across the composition. Look closely and you’ll spot two special figures that show up just once: a parakeet on the left and a mermaid on the right, figures that lend the artwork its title.
