Socks by Van Leen

Your pair of socks is inspired by a tiny watercolor painted by the 18th century Dutch painter Willem van Leen: 'Bouquet of tulips, violets, blue grapes and dotters'. The original only measures 21 x 14,4 cm and is one of the many studies Van Leen undertook to practice his skills for the successful flower painter he would become.

The scenery of this fragile bouquet might very well have been the pleasant& peaceful Jardin des Plantes in the heart of Paris. This was the quiet haven where Van Leen could withdraw from the busy city life when he was living in Paris in his twenties, even witnessing the French Revolution in 1789.
