Big Shopper by Ruysch (Minimal Flowers)

This big shopper inspired by one the many colourful paintings made by Rachel Ruysch! Born in a blooming era in the Netherlands, she revolutionized floral compositions in the 17th and 18th century. With a botanist father's collection, she had access to paint rare flowers and animals. Her talent earned her permission from her father to pursue an art education! While not unique due to a progressive attitude towards female artists, it remained unusual.

In her career, she sold paintings to wealthy collectors and European nobleman, only selling a few pieces a year. Did you know she earned nearly twice as much as Rembrandt van Rijn during his lifetime? She painted until the age of 84, with a collection of poetry published to honour her art, which was never done before to a Dutch artist in this way. Talk about a legend!
